Safe Driver Program

The St. Joseph Police Department Traffic Unit and Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with KJO105.5/QCountry 92.7, Reed Automotive Group, Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety, city of St. Joseph, and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #3, continue the “I’m a Safe Driver” program. Show us that you are “a safe driver” by filling out a card and dropping it in the box provided in the school office. The cards will be picked up at the end of each month, so be sure to get them turned in early. You must possess a valid Missouri drivers license or permit to be in this program. Two cards will be drawn from each high school every month. The names drawn will win a monthly prize. All persons eligible will have a chance to win a car at Reed Automotive Group, Belt and Pear. The 2022 drawing will take place on Saturday, May 7, at 2pm at the Reed Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership, located at 4525 Commons Drive. This year, the recipient will receive a 2006 green Mercury Milan. You must be present at the drawing to win the car. If the grand prize winner is under the age of 17, they must have an adult accept the title. The winner will be responsible for tax, title. license, insurance and all other fees.

A driving history check will be conducted on each individual whose name is drawn. Provided that you have had no traffic violations, i.e., speeding tickets, moving violation tickets, or seat belt tickets, AND no alcohol or drug related contacts since August 1, 2021, you are a winner. If the driving record shows any of the violations listed above, you will be disqualified from the drawing for the remainder of the school year, including the drawing for the car. In the event that a person is disqualified, another card will be drawn. There will be two prizes awarded to each high school each month.

The name drawn to win the car will again have their driving history checked, if there are any traffic tickets you will be disqualified and not eligible to win the car. So you must continue to drive safe, even after you have won a monthly prize. You can only win one monthly prize during the school year.
