Lodging Establishment Inspections

Missouri Health Department Responsibilities

Under Chapter 315, Revised Statutes in Missouri (RSMO), the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (MO-DHSS) is charged with the responsibility of inspecting or arranging for the inspection of every lodging establishment in the state as often as deemed necessary, but at least annually. MO-DHSS contracts with the Health Department to “achieve compliance with appropriate laws and regulations related to public health protection activities and licensing or certification of providers and facilities” (CPHF 7.1).

This includes the responsibility to “routinely inspect... regulated facilities” (CPHF 7.1.1.). The environmental health staff conducts inspections on all lodging establishments licensed by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services that are located within the city limits of St. Joseph. Inspections are conducted annually at a minimum.
